An offensive onslaught paced the Sikeston Bulldogs in a 9-0 win over the Cape Central Tigers on Tuesday at Cape Central High School.
Sikeston opened the scoring with a three-run first inning behind a 2-run double from Bailey Brown and an RBI single from Alexa Lee.
“We’ve struggled a bit with scoring in the first few innings,” Bulldogs coach Allison Conder said. “I think them realizing that we could score whenever we wanted helped with their confidence.”
The offense didn’t stop there as the Bulldogs put runners aboard and Abigail Deshaney reached on an error to score a pair to make it 5-0.
Backing up the explosive performance offensively in the circle was Chloe Hamby.
Hamby tossed a complete game shutout allowing just one hit and two walks while striking out 10.
“She battled back a lot when she got down in the count,” Conder said. “She didn’t walk as many batters as she usually does so she battled back an was able to either strike them out or just use her defense.”
Hamby not only dominated the Tigers hitters, she also contributed at the plate.
Hamby went 1-for-3 with an RBI in the win.
Sikeston tacked on two more runs in the fifth to make it 7-0.
A pair of runs would cross in the sixth inning to push the lead to 9-0.
Leading the charge on offense was Brown who finished 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored and Cambree Scott who went 2-for-3 with an RBI and 3 runs scored.
“Seeing the production from them and pretty much everybody is really getting us going,” Conder said.
Cape Central (1-11) hits the road at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 13, to take on Kelly.
Sikeston (2-3) will have some time off before returning to action at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 18, when the Bulldogs travel to take on the Notre Dame Bulldogs.
“We still have some things to work on in practice,” Conder said. “The last two games I’m really proud with the way they’ve played. These are the games we want to build off. We’re going to pull the good things and build on them.”
