POTOSI, Mo. — In a match that saw some impressive backhands and aces, the Sikeston boys’ tennis team defeated Arcadia Valley in the opening round of the MSHSAA Class 1, District 1 Tournament at Potosi High School.

“Huge getting a win,” said Sikeston coach Spencer Ayers. “Arcadia had a very talented top two. They are on the same doubles team and got second in districts and will be going to sectionals. Our bottom four came to play and took care of business. It's been a while since we have gotten a win so I think it was a huge confidence boost for the guys to go out tomorrow and compete for an upset.”

The fourth-seeded Bulldogs (3-9) advance to play top-seeded Dexter (6-6) in a semifinal on Tuesday, May 9 at 4 p.m.
