SIKESTON — The Sikeston volleyball team made a statement, both on the court and in the community at the Fieldhouse on Thursday, October 12.
The Lady Bulldogs (8-16-2) won 3-1 over the New Madrid County Central Lady Eagles (11-15-0) in the annual Pink Out Game, raising money and awareness for breast cancer.
The game was a close and competitive one, with both teams playing well. However, Sikeston was able to pull away in the end, thanks to some strong serving and hitting.
“Overall it was a great team effort and everyone contributed in some way,” said Sikeston coach Marc Jannin. “We were best at communicating and staying positive. Everyone was focused on their job last night. We all made sure to swing when we could and play it safe when appropriate.”
Sikeston prevailed in the first set 25-22, but NMCC rebounded in the second set to win 25-23. However, Sikeston rallied back after trailing late in the third set to win 26-24, demonstrating their resilience and determination.
“Heidi Self had some good serves and earned a couple of aces to bring us back in the third set,” Jannin said.
The Lady Bulldogs sealed their victory with a 25-23 triumph in the fourth set, capping off a thrilling and suspenseful match.
“Bri Williams had an enormous game,” Jannin said. “She had a ton of blocks and kills and played the best game of her career.”
