SIKESTON — The Sikeston Twilight Relays showcased fierce competition on Thursday, April 4.
On the boys’ side, Sikeston emerged victorious with a dominant 127.50 team score. Malden’s girls’ team delivered their own impressive performance, securing first place with 111.0 points.
Sikeston’s Chris Artis leaped to a victory in the long jump (22-1) and blazed to a win in the 200-meter dash in 22.81 seconds.
Teammate Bo Riddle won the javelin event with a throw of 145-9. Sikeston’s speed was further evident in their 800 relay victory, clocking in at 1:34.99.
Other schools made their presence felt. Malden’s Tristin Moncrief soared over the bar at 6-6.50 to take the high jump, while Ben Embry showcased his pole vaulting prowess with an 11-5.75 clearance.
Charleston’s Kamirion Wiley sprinted to a 52.10 victory in the 400, and Kennett’s Kevin Thompson launched the discus a formidable 145-3.
Blytheville’s Eugene Williams leaped 41-11.50 to win the triple jump and Bell City’s Kale Richardson won the shot put event with a 47-4.25 throw. Potosi’s Landon Sprous clinched the 110 hurdle win at 15.12 seconds, while Caruthersville’s Jermonte Alexander sprinted to the finish line in 11.07 seconds to win the 100.
The girls’ competition was equally fierce.
New Madrid County Central’s Amya Bills displayed impressive speed, winning both the 100 (12.14 seconds) and 200 (26.82 seconds). Malden’s Angela Dobbins proved her versatility with victories in the high jump (5-6) and long jump (18-1.50).
Sydni Haliburton added to Malden’s wins with an 18.04-second finish in the 100 hurdles.
Other highlights included Sikeston’s Katherine Ressel’s 96-6 javelin throw and Charleston’s Teasure Kimble’s 50.85-second victory in the 300 hurdles.
Scott City’s Lilyan Landis crossed the finish line first in the 400 with a time of 1:07.54.
Potosi’s Alyson Skiles (2:40.40 in the 800 run) and Van Buren’s Adria Marvin, who secured double wins in the 1600 (6:06.17) and 3200 (13.55.56) runs, also put on impressive displays of endurance.
Relay races brought additional excitement.
Malden’s girls’ team showed their teamwork with wins in both the 400 and 800 relays. Potosi’s boys’ and girls’ squads each won the 1600 relay, while Van Buren’s boys took the 3,200 title.
Caruthersville’s boys’ team showcased their speed, winning the 400 relay.
