MARBLE HILL -- Woodland High senior Shawn Massa has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at East Central College.
Massa, a 6-foot-1 guard, averaged 22 points over his three years as a starter for the Cardinals.
During his senior season, Massa averaged a team-high 22 points and five assists per game for the 17-10 Cardinals. He was also second in rebounding with five boards per game.
In being named all-district and all-conference for a second straight season, Massa bounced back from a broken leg suffered midway through his junior year. He was averaging around 30 points per game at the time of the injury.
"This year I felt he was a better player and he averaged 22 points," said Woodland coach Jennings Wilkinson. "I felt he made our team better. He's an all-around player."
Massa was a threat both inside and outside the 3-point arc. He shot 42 percent behind the line his senior season, but didn't hesitate driving to the basket when opponents moved out high to guard him.
"His senior year he became better at penetrating and shooting off the dribble," said Wilkinson.
East Central coach Chris Arand has indicated Massa will fill the role of a shooting guard for his junior college program in Union. Massa plans to pursue an education degree.
