On a night dedicated to 14 seniors, it was Bryce Sides who stood out ahead of the pack with two goals, leading Notre Dame to a 4-1 win over Sikeston in the Battle of the Bulldogs on Monday, Oct. 16, at Notre Dame High School.
"It's an amazing feeling, it really is, but I could not have done it without my teammates," Sides said. "We all played really well tonight. The defense gave the offense an opportunity to make a lot of runs ... It's amazing to have that support from your team."
This senior class has seen a lot of success unfold at Notre Dame. They were freshmen when the Bulldogs went to the Class 3 state championship game and juniors when they won their most recent district title. The Bulldogs improved to 11-10 with the win and are tied with Poplar Bluff (whom they previously defeated 3-0) for the most wins in Class 3 District 1 with only a couple of games left in the regular season.
"We made a lot of progress for sure," Sides said. "It's amazing to see where we started from the season to where we are now. Just all the way around, everyone on the field has gotten so much better and it's an awesome thing to see."
Notre Dame finishes the season with one more home game against rival Jackson on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., and on the road at De Smet Jesuit in St. Louis on Oct. 26 before heading to the Class 3 District 1 Tournament.
"Our goals are obviously to win districts, move on to quarterfinals and win quarterfinals," Sides said. "We'll have to work very hard and play our best games to win."
