A junior college guard who hit more than 200 3-pointers the past two years has become the third verbal commitment for the Southeast Missouri State men's basketball program.

Kenard Moore, a sophomore at Marshalltown (Iowa) Community College, said Monday that he plans to sign with the Redhawks when the spring signing period begins on April 11.

"I'm pretty excited about it," Moore said while in Cape Girardeau for his official campus visit.

The 5-foot-11 Moore, a native of Greensboro, N.C., averaged a team-leading 17.8 points per game for Marshalltown this past season.

Moore shot 39.5 percent from 3-point range, making 119 of 301 attempts. He finished his junior college career with 214 made 3-pointers.

Moore shot 44.8 percent from the field this past season. He hit 76.3 percent of his free-throw attempts and averaged 2.2 assists per game.

"Kenard is probably the best for that [3-point shooting] I've seen in a long time," said Marshalltown coach Brynjar Brynjarsson, who added that he considers Moore as good a junior college 3-point shooter as there is in the nation. "He has very good range beyond the 3-point line."

Moore primarily played two-guard in junior college, but Brynjarsson said he is also capable of playing point guard.

"I think he can back up and play some point," Brynjarsson said. "He did that for us on a limited basis.

"Not only is Kenard a very good player, he's a great young man. I think it's a good fit, and I think he can have a big impact for them next year."

Moore said he also considered North Carolina-Wilmington, Montana State and NCAA tournament qualifier Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

"They [Southeast] offered me after my first game this year, and it was my first offer," Moore said. "I really liked the coaches and how they were treating me.

"I like the players, and I think the team has good potential to make it to the [NCAA] tournament. I think I can help them."

Moore joins 6-10 Bell City High School senior Will Bogan and 6-5 wing Jaycen Herring from Palm Beach (Fla.) Community College in giving Southeast a verbal commitment.
