CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -- Kelly High School graduate Amy Arteme won the OVC cross country meet as an Otahkian Saturday.
But her team couldn't follow suit.
Arteme won the race convincingly in 18:36, but Eastern Kentucky won its 18th consecutive OVC title."It was an outstanding effort by Amy Arteme to become the OVC champion as a sophomore," Southeast coach Joey Haines said. "She just ran away from everybody. I'm very happy with her and Tammy (Wenkel). They ran real well. Our four, five and six runners just didn't run as well as we hoped. We definitely had a chance to win a n OVC championship , we just didn't get the job done today."Eastern Kentucky finished with 33 points, followed by Southeast with 48.
Southeast's Tammy Wenkel took fourth in 18:50, followed by Celeste Ramsey in 13th in 19:26 and Leslie Macnamara in 14th with a time of 19:38. Anna Verseman took 16th in 19:46, Jennifer Brown took 22nd in 20:06 and Christy Williams did not finish.
Eastern Illinois took third with 59 points followed by Morehead State (95), Austin Peay (161), Murray State (173), Tennessee Tech (192), Tennessee State (193), Middle Tennessee (248) and Tennessee Martin (26).The complete men's results were not available when the Southeast Missourian went to press. Southeast, however, finished somewhere in the middle of the OVC pack.
The Otahkians will compete in regional competition at the University of Illinois in two weeks.n Southeast Missouri State's volleyball team won its 14th game in a row Saturday with a three-set victory over Eastern Kentucky.
