The Southeast Missouri State soccer team kicked off Ohio Valley Conference action by recording its fourth shutout and scoring its most goals in a game this season.

The Redhawks defeated Eastern Illinois (1-8-1, 0-1 OVC) 4-0 on Friday in Charleston, Illinois, to improve to 4-3 and 1-0 in conference.

Sophomore forward Natasha Minor scored in the 12th and 26th minutes to mark her first two-goal game of her career.

Sophomore defender Christina Rohde followed that with the first goal of her career in the 33rd minute off a corner kick from junior forward Ashley Brendel to make it 3-0.

Senior midfielder Taylor Byrd scored in the 67th minute. Minor and senior midfielder Torey Byrd were credited with the assist.

Senior forward Breana Beine and junior defender Paige Luehmann each had an assist.

Freshman goalkeeper Kindra Lierz made eight saves and recorded her fourth shutout.

The Redhawks return to Houck Stadium for conference games against UT Martin and Murray State on Friday and Sunday, respectively.

Volleyball

The Southeast volleyball team began Ohio Valley Conference with a pair of losses on the road.

The Redhawks were swept by Murray State (10-3, 1-0 OVC) in their conference opener Friday night, 26-24, 25-20, 25-21.

There were 10 ties in the first set, including at 24-24, but a Southeast attack error and a Murray service ace ended the match.

Southeast led Murray 11-10, but was outscored 15-9 to close out the set. The Redhawks had three attack errors and a service error during that stretch.

The Redhawks had two more kills than the Racers in the third set, but committed nine attack errors and hit .136.

Senior outside hitter Andrea Baylin led the Redhawks with 12 kills and 13 digs in the match.

Austin Peay (8-10, 2-0 OVC) defeated Southeast in four sets on Saturday.

Southeast knotted the first set at 17-all before falling 25-20.

The Govs scored the first point of the second set but that was the last time the Redhawks trilled in a 25-15 win.

Austin Peay never trailed in the third and cruised to a 25-18 victory.

Southeast trailed 16-10 in the fourth set before rallying. The match was tied four times after that, including at 24-24 but Austin Peay's Jada Stotts' consecutive kills ended the game and handed the Redhawks a 26-24 loss.

Stotts had a match-high 24 kills. Freshman outside hitter Krissa Gearring recorded 11 kills and a game-high 25 digs in the match. Baylin had 12 kills while freshman middle blocker Nzingha Clarke had 11 kills and seven blocks. Junior middle blocker Taylor Masterson had 10 kills.

The Redhawks (4-11, 0-2 OVC) will look to snap a five-game losing streak when they face UT Martin on Tuesday in Martin, Tennessee.
