The rain-plagued SEMO Conference baseball tournament, which was supposed to be holding its championship game tonight, will get fully underway today with games at three locations in the area.
Three of the first-round games that originally were scheduled for Friday finally will be played this afternoon, with the winners advancing to the semifinals this evening at Capaha Field.
Thus far, top-seeded Poplar Bluff has been the only team to advance to the semifinals as the Mules defeated No. 8 Dexter 5-0 on Friday in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.
Poplar Bluff awaits the winner of the first-round game between No. 4 Sikeston and No. 5 Jackson, which will be played at 2 p.m. today in Sikeston, Missouri. The winner will travel to Capaha Field to meet the Mules in a semifinal at 5:30 p.m.
Today's other first-round game between No. 3 Notre Dame and No. 6 Cape Girardeau Central will be played at 3 p.m. at Notre Dame Regional High School. The winner will face either No. 2 Kennett or No. 7 New Madrid County Central in the second semifinal, slated for 8 p.m. at Capaha Field,
Kennett and New Madrid County Central are scheduled to play in the first of three games at Capaha Field, holding their first-round game at 3 p.m.
The date of the tournament championship game will be worked out between the semifinal winners.
Consolation semifinal games also will be held today at Notre Dame and in Sikeston.
