As expected, Three Rivers Community College sharpshooter Cory Johnson signed a letter of intent Thursday to play basketball at Southeast Missouri State University.
The Indians also signed another area junior college player in Mineral Area's Demetrius Watson. Both players will be juniors next season.
Johnson, a 6-foot guard, averaged 19 points per game at Three Rivers this past season. A graduate of Clearwater High School, Johnson shot a remarkable 45 percent from behind the 3-point during his sophomore season at Three Rivers. He departs as the school's all-time 3-point shooter with 236 treys. His 14 3-pointers in a game is also a school record.
The 6-foot-4 Watson averaged 14 points and eight rebounds for Mineral Area College. Watson was an all-state player at Roosevelt High School in St. Louis.
During the early signing period, Southeast signed Cape Girardeau Central standout Nathan Owen. A two-time all-state selection, Owen averaged 20 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals during his senior season.
