The Cape Girardeau SEMO Bank Junior Legion baseball team took care of some unfinished business Thursday afternoon and then, later in the day, started the SEMO Bank Tournament with a win.
Chaffee's Jr. Legion was Cape's victim in both contests, losing to SEMO Bank 4-3 in a make-up game and then losing the opening game of the SEMO Bank Jr. Legion Tournament by the same score. Both games were played at Cape Central.
The two district victories improved Cape to 10-7 overall and 8-1 in the district. Chaffee fell to 15-7 overall.
Mark Ostendorf pitched a complete game in the first game, allowing three earned runs on six hits and one walk. He fanned four.
SEMO Bank totaled nine hits, getting two each from Richard Harrison and Tom Wencewicz. Josh McIntosh singled and eventually scored the winning run in the top of the seventh inning after a wild throw at first base as Chaffee attempted to turn a double play.
Chaffee got a two-run home run from Phil Seyer to tie the score 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth.
In the tournament game, Justin Cook scattered eight hits, walked two and fanned four in going the distance. Rick Davis and Mark Fisher both had two of Cape's seven hits.
Once again, SEMO Bank scored a run in the seventh inning to claim victory. Chad Jones singled with one out, stole second and then scored on a two-out single by Tom Wencewicz to end the game.
Brian Kolwyck blasted a solo home run in the top of the third inning to give Chaffee a 3-2 lead.
Both teams play two tournament games today. SEMO Bank, playing at Cape Central, will play at noon against Paducah, Ky. and at 2:15 p.m. meets Memphis CBC.
Chaffee, playing at Notre Dame, faces Imperial at noon and Kirkwood at 2:15 p.m.
