SEMO Bank Cape Jr. Legion and Chaffee Jr. Legion both posted round-robin victories Friday night as the SEMO Bank Invitational opened play.
SEMO Bank posted an 8-4 victory over Jackson, while Chaffee Jr. Legion remained undefeated on the season with a 5-1 win over Paducah.
Mark Ostendorf recorded the win on the mound for SEMO Bank (4-10), holding Jackson to five hits. He struck out nine and walked two.
SEMO Bank, which grabbed a 4-0 lead in the first inning and never trailed, unleashed 10 hits. Mark Fisher led the way with three hits and three RBIs. Mike Sullivan and Tommy Wencewicz each added a pair of hits.
Jackson scored two runs in the top of the second, but SEMO Bank pulled away with a single run in the second, two in the fourth and one in the fifth for an 8-2 lead.
Chaffee improved to 19-0 on the season as Jim Hulshof (2-0) limited Paducah to four hits. He struck out four and walked nobody.
Dustin Dannenmueller and Keith Hamm each finished with three hits in Chaffee's nine-hit attack.
Chaffee scored two runs in the top of the first. After Paducah plated its lone run in the second, Chaffee countered with single runs in the third, fifth and sixth innings.
In other round robin games, Imperial edged Kirkwood 3-2 and West Plains beat Christian Brothers 10-2.
Round robin action continues today. SEMO Bank will face West plains today at 10 a.m. at Notre Dame and play Christian Brothers at 4:30 p.m. at Cape Central. Chaffee will play Kirkwood at 10 a.m. and Imperial at 2:15 p.m.. Both game are at Cape Central.
Cape Sr. Babe Ruth
Cape Girardeau's Senior Babe Ruth baseball team, the Commerce Bank White Sox, remained undefeated in league play Thursday night by sweeping visiting East Prairie.
The White Sox claimed 7-5 and 10-8 victories to improve to 8-0 in SEMO South action. Commerce Bank is 8-6 overall.
Chuck Brown was the winning pitcher in the opener, with David Hamm earning a save.
Joey McCullough went the distance in the nightcap. J.P. Ziegler's two-run double in the fifth inning broke an 8-8 tie.
The White Sox will travel to Dexter today for a 6 p.m. doubleheader.
