OXFORD, Miss. -- For the third time this season, Southeast Missouri State University's baseball team was able to rally for a victory during its final at-bat.

And Sunday's 5-2 win over host Mississippi in the second game of a doubleheader allowed the Indians to salvage a split of the twin bill and earn one triumph in the three-game weekend series.

The Rebels captured Sunday's opener 14-3. They had prevailed 1-0 Saturday.

Southeast is now 4-2 while Mississippi is 6-2.

In Sunday's nightcap, the Indians trailed 2-1 entering the top of the seventh inning. But Denver Stuckey's two-run single gave Southeast a 3-2 lead and sparked a four-run rally.

Jeff Hilz (1-0) pitched 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief to earn the win. He struck out four, allowed one hit and did not walk a batter.

Starter Brad Purcell had his second straight solid outing, allowing four hits and one earned run in 4 1/3 innings. He was hampered by six walks.

In the opener, Jeff Bourbon's two-run double in the fourth gave the Indians a 2-1 lead. But the Rebels exploded for six in the fifth to take control and then broke things open with a seven-run sixth.

Greg Lunski (1-1) took the loss in relief of starter Todd Pennington. Lunski allowed seven hits and eight runs in 2 2/3 innings.

Freshman Jeremy King, who followed Lunski to the mound, was hampered by wildness -- he walked five while retiring just one batter -- and allowed five runs (four earned) despite not giving up a hit.

Southeast's fourth hurler, freshman Brad Beatty, retired two batters without incident.

Pennington gave up three hits and one run in 2 1/3 innings. He fanned three and walked one.

Mike Gray (1-0) got the victory, allowing five hits and two runs. He fanned four and walked two.

The Indians had 14 hits in the two games, eight in the opener. Clemente Bonilla continued his hot start with three total hits while Stuckey, Bourbon and Zach Borowiak also had three hits on the day.
