Southeast Missouri State's gymnasts placed third in their own Midwest Independent Championships held Thursday night at Houck Field House.
Illinois-Chicago won the four-team meet with a 194.000 total and was followed by Illinois State (192.575), Southeast (191.900) and Winona State (184.025).
The Otahkians' best finishes on the night were thirds turned in by Stephanie Furman in the balance beam (8.775) and Kathy Smith (9.800) in the floor exercise. Southeast's Jessica Bagwill also finished third in the all-around competition with 38.200.
Illinois State's Heather Mohler won the all-around (38.450) and placed first in the vault (9.825). Denise Housa added a first place for Illinois State in the balance beam (9.825). Illinois-Chicago gymnasts won the other two events. Kim Ball claimed the floor exercise (9.875) and Amy August won the uneven parallel bars (9.825).
