It's official. Mr. Show-Me Basketball is coming to the Show Me Center.
A story which the Southeast Missourian broke on Thursday came to pass on Friday when Vashon High School senior point guard Joel Shelton signed a letter of intent to attend Southeast Missouri State University on a basketball scholarship.
Shelton averaged 23 points, five assists and four steals in leading Vashon to a 27-2 record and the Missouri Class 4A state championship this past season. The 5-foot-8, first-team all-state player ended his career at Vashon as the school's all-time leading scorer.
"We are extremely excited about signing Joel Shelton," said Southeast coach Gary Garner. "He is an outstanding, complete basketball player from one of the premier high school basketball programs in the state. He played for Floyd Irons who just wins state championship after state championship.
"Shelton knows how to play the game and he knows how to win. I expect him to help us next season. It is very big for our program to be able to sign the player considered to be the best high school player in the state."
