JONESBORO, Ark. -- Southeast Missouri State University's baseball team saw its losing streak reach five games here Wednesday afternoon.
Host Arkansas State snapped a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the seventh inning to prevail 4-2 in a battle of Indians.
ASU improved to 5-5 while Southeast fell to 2-8.
"We really had some great individual performances today and overall the ballclub played well," said Southeast coach Mark Hogan. "It's hard to put your finger on, but right now we're going through one of those spells."
Trailing 2-0, Southeast tied the contest in the fifth on a two-run double by Jeremy Johnson.
ASU scored two in the seventh to break the deadlock.
Southeast finished with six hits, Johnson, Kyle Yount and Phil Warren all getting two. ASU had nine hits.
Lanson Debrock, the Southeast starter, allowed five hits and two runs in five innings. He struck out five and walked two.
Dan Huesgen, who suffered the loss, gave up four hits and two runs in 1 2/3 innings. But both of the runs were unearned.
Ryan Spille fanned two and did not allow a hit in 1 2/3 innings.
Matt Hale started for ASU, allowing six hits and two runs in six innings. Jeremy Smith got the win with three scoreless and hitless innings.
The Indians will return to action this weekend with a three-game home series against Northern Illinois. The squads will have a 3 p.m. doubleheader Saturday and a noon single game Sunday. All the contest will be at Capaha Field.
