SCOTT-MISSISSIPPI: SCOTT CENTRAL, ELLY TO VIE FOR TOURNAMENT TITLE

ORAN -- Saturday night's championship game of the Scott-Mississippi Conference girls basketball tournament will feature the top two seeds.

That was assured in Thursday night's semifinals when top-seeded Scott County Central blistered host Oran, the No. 4 seed, 86-44; and second-seeded Kelly slipped past No. 3 Scott City 43-38.

Scott Central and Kelly will square off at 8 p.m. Saturday for the title.

The same clubs will meet at 6:30 p.m. Saturday for the junior varsity championship. In JV semifinal play Thursday, top-seeded Scott Central routed Oran 76-22 and third-seeded Kelly knocked off No. 7 Scott City 39-25.

Scott Central 86, Oran 44

The Bravettes jumped out to a 20-5 first-quarter lead and were never headed. They led 44-18 at halftime.

Tonia Harris poured in 31 points for Scott Central, now 9-0 on the season. Tabitha Harris added 20 and Shatonya Fort had 19.

Oran, which fell to 7-5, was paced by 21 points from Alisha Puckett. Teresa Albee scored 11.

"We didn't play well at all," said Oran coach Jamie Bell. "We came out intimidated and played that way the whole game. Scott County is quite a team."

Kelly 43, Scott City 38

The Lady Hawks won their ninth straight game and raised their record to 11-2 by slipping past Scott City.

Tess Largent led Kelly with 15 points. Eight players scored in all.

Scott City, which fell to 11-3, got 12 points from Christy Lowes and 10 from Stephanie Grimes.

Kelly led 21-17 at halftime and 27-26 entering the final period.
