The Scott County American Legion baseball team won the Charleston wooden bat tournament on Sunday, defeating Sikeston American Legion 7-5 in the championship game.

Blake Dirnberger went 3-for-3 for Scott County (7-3), which had 10 hits overall. Six of the hits came in a seven-run second inning. Aaron Jenkins and Rusty Hendricks each added two hits.

Caleb Daughhetee recorded the win, allowing five hits in seven innings. He struck out seven batters.

Scott County went 3-0 in the eight-team tournament.

Cape Legion drops pair

The Cape Girardeau Ford & Sons American Legion dropped a pair of games road Sunday against Paducah.

Paducah won the opener 7-4, then rolled to a 15-5 mercy-rule victory in the nightcap.

Ford & Sons (9-6) had 10 hits on the day, including eight in the first game. Jeremy Brinkmeyer had three hits in the opener, while Blake Slattery added two hits and two RBIs.

Lance Young pitched all six innings for Cape, allowing eight hits. He walked two and struck out five.

In the nightcap, Ty Craft had a three-run double in the third inning to account for one of the two hits by Ford & Sons.

Losing pitcher Chris Brotherton allowed nine hits in three innings.

Cape Junior Legion splits

Cape Junior Legion bounced back from an 8-7 loss with a 17-1 rout as it split a doubleheader with Paducah.

Cape's Alex Shell had three hits and two RBIs in the opener, while teammate Jacob Valleroy had two hits and three RBIs. Blake Smith suffered the loss.

Valleroy added three hits and seven RBIs in the second game. Tyler Brandt recorded the win.
