Caleb Daughhetee had three hits and Jon Simpher pitched a complete-game shutout Friday to lead the Scott County American Legion team past Fulton, Ky., American Legion 3-0 in the first round of the wooden bat tournament in Charleston, Mo.
Scott County (5-3) advances to today's 2:30 p.m. semifinal round game against the Charleston Senior Babe Ruth team.
Daughhetee was 3-for-3 with two runs scored, and Trenton Moses was 2-for-3 with a run scored to lead Scott County's hitting attack.
Simpher allowed just three hits and two walks while striking out two over seven innings.
* Charleston beat Chaffee's Senior Babe Ruth team 6-4 in another first-round game at the tournament, which features four Legion teams and four Babe Ruth teams. Dallas Tew, who played alongside Daughhetee and Simpher at Kelly High School this spring, was the winning pitcher.
Blytheville, Ark., pinned an 8-1 loss on Jackson in a pool play game Friday at the Jonesboro, Ark., tournament.
Jackson (4-7) fell to 1-1 in pool play, joining Blytheville in a tie. Jackson plays Paragould, Ark., 4:30 p.m. today at Arkansas State.
The winner of the pool advances to play Sunday.
Nick Roe took the loss, allowing eight runs -- four earned -- in seven innings.
Cameron Heath had two of Jackson's six hits.
