The Scott County American Legion junior team continued to roll Thursday night as Post 369 slipped past Festus 2-1 in the opening game of the Zone 4 Tournament at Harmon Field in Chaffee.

Host Scott County improved to 25-12 and advances to today's 5:30 p.m. winner's bracket final of the four-team event. The second first-round game was being played late Thursday night.

Scott County trailed 1-0 entering its final at-bat but scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull out the victory.

Jacob Essner led offensively with three hits while Andy Stephens earned the win on the mound as he remained undefeated.

Cape routed at Paducah

The late-season hot streak for Cape Girardeau's Ford & Sons American Legion senior team hit a bump as host Paducah (Ky.) romped 12-0. The game was stopped after seven innings because of the 10-run rule.

Cape (16-23) had just two hits and trailed 8-0 after two innings. Lee Essner and Jake Welch had the hits. Kendal Deason was the losing pitcher.

Ford & Sons ends the regular season Saturday with a doubleheader at Farmington.

Jackson falls on road

The Jackson RE/MAX Achievers American Legion senior team fell 7-3 at Dunklin County in its final District 14 game of the season.

Tony Longman's home run in the eighth inning was one of only seven hits for Jackson (21-11, 1-5). Austin Morrison was the losing pitcher.

Jackson visits Metropolis (Ill.) tonight.
