CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Chaffee's chances of pulling an upset against the state's top-ranked team in Class 1 took a hit when it learned that three of the Red Devils' starters would be out of Friday's lineup with the flu.

With regulars Alex Crowe, Jason Cicardi and Jordan Yahn all unable to go, Scott County Central ran out to a 48-point halftime lead on its way to a 96-36 victory.

"We played really well, especially the first half, the last time we played them," Chaffee coach Josh Govreau said. "I'm sure they were ready to get back at us. They're not going to let up just because we have three guys out. They're going to play their game and keep getting better."

SCC's Dominique Porter helped the Braves open the game on a 19-4 run by scoring nine of his 15 points in the first three minutes of the first quarter. The Braves (16-2) built a 35-9 lead by the end of the first eight minutes.

SCC continued its fast-paced attack in the second quarter. It ended the half by scoring 18 consecutive points.

Chaffee's problems were compounded by SCC's ability to either force the Red Devils (9-8) into tough shots or keep them away from the rim all together.

Chaffee attempted 20 shots and only hit six before halftime. The Braves got off 46 shots and hit 61 percent of them.

"It's hard to simulate," Govreau said about the Braves' defense. "Coaches say put seven, eight guys on the floor, but it's not the same as when you're out there seeing their athleticism, the height of Otto Porter and the quickness of those guys. You just can't simulate that."

Chaffee's Michael Rutherford and Daniel Dooley combined for 14 points in the third quarter, but the Red Devils couldn't slow down the Braves.

SCC managed to push its lead to 58 points entering the fourth quarter and sailed to its 11th consecutive win.

"I thought they came out and really worked defensively, which is a good thing," SCC coach Kenyon Wright said. "If we can keep doing that, then that's going to cause some trouble for people. Hopefully we bring that through toward the district tournament."

Otto Porter led the Braves with 25 points, while fellow senior Stewart Johnson added 17 points.

Rutherford paced the Red Devils with 11.
