OAK RIDGE, Mo. — The Scott County Central softball team suffered a disappointing loss in the opening round of the highly anticipated Oak Ridge Tournament on Thursday, April 13.
The Bravettes (5-7) fell 7-2 to the Oak Ridge Lady BlueJays (2-2) at Oak Ridge High School.
“I was proud of the girls' effort,” said SCC coach Tim Carlisle. “We didn’t get the win, but they collectively got better. This was the first game in a long time that we committed no errors. You always give yourself a chance when that happens. Hats off to Oak Ridge. They are well coached and have solid pitching.”
Oak Ridge scored one run in the first inning, one run in the second inning and two runs in the third inning to take a 4-0 advantage. Those runs came when LeeAnna Davis scored on a ground out, Mia Friese scored on a single by Zoe Berry, Madyson Ruehling singles to score MaKayla Rangel and Madalyn Schemel singled to score Ruehling.
SCC narrowed the lead to 4-1 in the top of the fifth inning after Kyla Pearson scored on an error following a triple.
The BlueJays refused to let the Bravettes build any momentum and responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning to increase the lead to 6-1. Those runs came when Seabugh scored on a wild pitch and Rangel scored on a ground out.
Each team added one run in the final inning. SCC scored when Brianna Seiler singled to drive Nikki Adams home, while Oak Ridge added its run when Kinsley Bogenpohl scored on a double by Seabaugh.
Bogenpohl earned the win after six innings on the mound. She allowed one earned run on three hits with 11 strikeouts and no walks.
Khloe Tolle took the loss. She threw 5.2 innings and allowed seven earned runs on 11 hits with three strikeouts and five walked batters.
SCC will face Arcadia Valley (4-5) on Friday, April 14, and Delta (1-4) on Saturday, April 15 in the Oak Ridge Tournament.
