The Scott City volleyball team opened its season by sweeping Advance 25-19, 25-15 at home Tuesday night. The Rams, who have won back-to-back district titles, were led by Kacie Ritter, who finished with five assists. Jenni Heisserer had three kills, and freshman Brooke Simpson added two blocks...

The Scott City volleyball team opened its season by sweeping Advance 25-19, 25-15 at home Tuesday night.

The Rams, who have won back-to-back district titles, were led by Kacie Ritter, who finished with five assists. Jenni Heisserer had three kills, and freshman Brooke Simpson added two blocks.

Scott City will return to action on Tuesday, when it travels to New Madrid County Central.

St. Vincent 25 25 Jackson 14 16

St. Vincent opened its season by sweeping Jackson at home.

Brooke Brown led the Squaws with seven kills and nine digs. Lacey Siegmund added five kills, nine digs, and 10 assists. Kailyn Petzoldt had five kills and nine digs.

Katelyn James had seven kills for Jackson. Chelsea Olson had eight digs and six assists, and DeDe Whitlow added eight digs.

New Salem 25 25 Westwood 8 19

Laura Poole had 20 assists to lead New Salem Baptist of Marble Hill past Westwood of Poplar Bluff.

Martha Poole finished with 11 kills, while Sarah Green and Kelsey Barlow each added eight kills.

Chester, Ill. 15 25 25 Saxony 25 17 20

Saxony Lutheran dropped a road contest in its season opener at Chester, Ill.

Nicole Petzoldt served up 11 points, including two aces. Brooke Kasten had five kills and two blocks. Kara Versemann added four kills and two blocks, and Taylor Krauss had 10 digs.

Perryville 22 25 25 Central 25 23 13

Central won the first game but could not hold off the host Pirates.

Kristin Shirrell led the Tigers (1-1) with 17 assists. Ashton Gerlach had 19 digs, and Melissa Espinoza and Brittany Rhodes had 15 digs apiece.

JV -- Perryville won 25-23, 23-25, 25-20.

Freshman -- Central won 25-16, 26-24.

Woodland Tournament

Leopold, Meadow Heights, Woodland and Zalma all posted first-round sweeps Tuesday in the Woodland tournament.

Leopold defeated Chaffee 25-6, 25-3 and Zalma topped Oran 25-7, 25-3 to set up a semifinal match at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Meadow Heights topped Greenville 25-8, 25-4, while Woodland won the closest match of the night, 25-14, 25-18, over Oak Ridge. Meadow Heights and the host Cardinals meet at 7:45 p.m. Thursday.

SOFTBALL Delta 8, Twin Rivers 0

Delta freshman Kendra Burnett struck out 12 in a two-hit shutout, and she went 4-for-4 at the plate in a road win.

The Bobcats (2-0) finished with 16 hits.

Kayla Seabaugh had three hits. Kaci Menz, Sara Blattel and Taylor Smith had two hits apiece. Burnett added two doubles and two RBIs.
