SCOTT CITY -- He's back.
Scott City High School rehired Lance Amick to coach the Rams baseball team during the school district's board meeting Wednesday.
"I made a heck of a mistake and I've been blessed to have some people down here who believe in me and gave me another shot," Amick said. "I'm not going to let them down. That's the bottom line."
Amick, who graduated from Scott City High School in 1999, resigned all three of his coaching assignments Dec. 7. He had served as the boys basketball coach for seven seasons and the baseball coach for three. He also served as an assistant coach for the football team. But he said he was burned out and stepped away from coaching. It's a decision he quickly regretted.
"Sometimes you just have to make a heck of a mistake to figure out what you really should be doing," he said Friday. "You don't know what you've got until it's gone."
Amick returns to the baseball program that he led to the school's first team state championship in 2008. He compiled a 53-18 record during his three seasons with the baseball team and he's looking forward to returning to the dugout in a few months.
"The bottom line is I think this is the move I need to make," he said.
