FREDERICKTOWN -- Scott City High's football team improved to 2-1 and continued Fredericktown's woes Friday night as the Rams defeated the host Black Cats 24-9.
"It wasn't real pretty but it's nice to win," said Scott City coach Terry Flannigan after his team dropped Fredericktown to 0-3.
The Rams took the lead for good in the first quarter as Adam Spinks intercepted a pass and returned it 30 yards for a touchdown. Fredericktown's Luke McKinnis kicked a 31-yard field goal in the second period so the Rams led 6-3 at halftime.
Scott City went ahead 18-3 with two third-quarter touchdowns. Lance Amick scored on a 2-yard run and Amick hit Jason Bickings with a 19-yard TD pass.
McKinnis caught a 16-yard TD pass from Andy Clark in the final period, but the Rams iced the victory when Amick and Wes Littleton hooked up on a 36-yard scoring play.
The Rams rushed for 175 yards, Pat Johnston leading the way with 72 yards on 14 carries. Howie Stubenrauch added 51 yards while Travis Burger had 45. Amick completed five of 10 passes for 78 yards.
Fredericktown was limited to 74 yards rushing, but Clark passes for 171 yards.
Herculaneum 20, Perryville 6
HERCULANEUM -- Perryville put up a strong challenge but Herculaneum remained unbeaten with a home victory Friday night.
The Pirates (1-2) scored their only touchdown in the second quarter on a 66-yard run by Brad Bollinger. That tied the contest at 6-6.
Herculaneum (3-0) led 14-6 at halftime.
