ORAN -- Scott City's girls captured the championship crown of the weathered-delayed Scott-Mississippi Conference Tournament Saturday with a 47-31 victory over Kelly.
Sara Emerson tallied 16 points and Tara Sanford netted 13 as the Lady Rams broke open a close game in the second half. Emerson added four assists and nine rebounds.
Jennifer McNeill scored a game-high 16 points for Kelly.
The victory was the third of the season for Scott City over Kelly in three meetings. The Lady Rams improved to 9-2 on the year.
Scott City led 15-12 at halftime and pulled away in the second half. Scott City built a 29-20 lead by the end of the third quarter and iced the game with an 18-11 scoring advantage in the final period.
Scott City made it a sweep in the JV title game with a 43-32 win over Chaffee. Alaina Smith scored 19 points for Scott City.
Scott City and Kelly will meet a fourth time on Monday when the Lady Rams visit the Lady Hawks.
Jackson 69, Charleston 42
JACKSON -- Jackson's girls used a balanced attack to overcome a game-high 19-points by Charleston's Talisha Haynes as three Lady Indians scored in double figures.
Shannon Perry netted 15 points to lead Jackson (11-2, 3-0 SEMO conference). Michele Millham added 12 points and her sister Christa added 11. Three other Jackson players finished with at least seven points.
Haynes was the lone double-figure scorer for Charleston.
Jackson opened strong, building a 23-11 lead by the close of the first quarter. The Lady Indians took a comfortable 39-21 lead into halftime.
The lead grew to 27 points by the end of the third quarter.
Jackson returns to action on Saturday when Nerinx Hall visits.
Notre Dame 65, Farmington 55
FARMINGTON -- Notre Dame used a strong finish to put away Farmington Saturday afternoon in a makeup game.
Rachael Schlosser spurred Notre Dame's attack with 16 points with Melissa Maurer right behind with 15 and Tracy Blattel with 12.
Notre Dame improved to 9-4 with the victory.
Brittany Duval led four Farmington players in double figures with 15 points.
Farmington led 14-12 after one period but saw Notre Dame move ahead 28-22 by halftime. Farmington trimmed the lead to 40-39 by the start of the fourth quarter, but Notre Dame held a 25-16 scoring advantage over the final eight minutes.
Farmington won the JV game 40-25.
Notre Dame will visit Twin Rivers on Thursday.
Delta wins own tourney
DELTA -- Host Delta beat Portageville 50-33 to win its own tournament Saturday.
Delta improved to 8-2 on the season.
The Lady Bobcats led 11-6 after one quarter and 25-17 at the half.
Delta's Amanda McDaniels led all scorers with 15 points and Jody Below added 13.
Chaffee beat Dexter 50-48 for third place.
Dexter led 14-4 after one quarter before Chaffee came back.
Renee Vandeven and Kate Nolen both had 12 points for Chaffee and Kelly Glueck added 10.
Woodland won the consolation title 41-32 over St. Vincent.
A 12-4 edge in the second quarter was the difference for Woodland.
Nikki Anderson had 16 points for Woodland and Jada Trentham added 14. St. Vincent was led by Becky Lorenz's 13 points.
Boys basketball
Woodland 71, Bernie 70, OT
MARBLE HILL -- As far as overtime games are concerned, Woodland found the third time is the charm.
After overtime losses to Scott County Central and Jackson its last two times out, Woodland defeated Bernie in overtime, outscoring the Mules 3-2 in the extra period.
Travis Whitener, who finished with 13 points, scored the ultimate game-winner on a free throw with eight second left in overtime. Bernie, which saw Brandon Stone hit a 3-pointer at the end of regulation to force overtime, missed a shot to win on the game's final possession.
Stone finished with 31 points, including five 3-pointers.
Woodland countered with four players in double figures. Shawn Massa netted 15, followed by Whitener, Nick Underwood 12, and David Massa 11.
Lafayette 71, Charleston 64, OT
CHARLESTON -- Rashad Oliver scored a game-high 33 points, but it was not enough to keep Charleston from suffering its third loss of the season Saturday.
Oliver was not around for the overtime period after fouling out late in the fourth quarter. LaRico Coleman was the only other Bluejay to hit double figures in scoring with 15 points. Charleston fell to 13-3.
Lafayette led 17-15 after one period and 35-26 at halftime. Charleston rallied in the second half, holding a 21-15 scoring edge in the third quarter and a 15-12 advantage in the fourth period.
Lafayette outscored Charleston 9-2 in overtime.
Charleston returns to action Monday when it plays Clarksville, Tenn., in the first round of the Superman Classic in Metropolis, Ill. Game time is 8 p.m.
