The Scott City football team overcame a pair of lightning delays to roll in its first-round district game Thursday night.
Scott City swamped host Jefferson 46-22 as the Rams earn a district semifinal date Wednesday at Caruthersville, the top seed for the eight-team district.
The Rams improved to 5-4 while Jefferson, a first-year varsity program from Festus, Mo., finished its season at 4-5.
Scott City piled up 391 yards rushing on 45 attempts and did not throw a pass.
"We game-planned to throw the ball and weather vetoed that," Scott City coach Jim May said after the game that featured a halftime lightning delay and another in the fourth quarter. "The kids were upset they didn't get to play at home and came up here to prove a point.
"I feel that was the first time we imposed our will on another team."
Senior tailback Travis Phillips, who had already eclipsed the 1,000-yard rushing mark on the season, piled up 219 yards on 24 carries.
Phillips scored touchdowns on runs of 8 and 56 yards.
Senior quarterback Jonathan McFall rushed for 80 yards on just four carries. He scored three touchdowns, on runs of 3, 62 and 16 yards.
Also scoring for the Rams were senior back Zach Haynes, from 1 yard, and junior back Zach Carlyle, from 6 yards.
Carlyle added 51 yards on seven carries while Haynes had 36 yards on eight attempts.
Scott City led 13-0 after one quarter, 19-8 at halftime and 33-14 entering the final period.
The Red Devils season ended with a loss on the road in their district opener.
Chaffee's aerial assault was hindered by a steady rain throughout the game, according to coach Charlie Vickery.
"The field deteriorated as we went," Vickery said.
Sixth-seeded Chaffee (3-6) scored its only touchdown in the first quarter on a 67-yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Peyton Montgomery to junior wide receiver Layton Tenkhoff.
The Red Devils trailed 13-6 after one quarter and 28-6 at halftime.
Montgomery completed 14 of his 30 passes in the wet conditions. The Red Devils had 167 yards passing in the game, 132 of which came in better first-half conditions said Vickery.
Tenkhoff caught eight passes for 127 yards.
