The Scott City baseball team, the defending Class 2 state champion, has opened the season with a pair of one-run losses.
Scott City, the preseason top-ranked squad in Class 2, was defeated at fellow small-school power Ste. Genevieve Valle 2-1 on Wednesday.
That came after the Rams fell at home to Jackson 9-8 in Monday's season opener.
Skylar Cobb was strong on the mound for the Rams despite suffering Wednesday's loss. He allowed one earned run and four hits over five innings, with six strikeouts and two walks.
"He threw real well," Scott City coach Lance Amick said. "Valle has a good team."
