Scott City falls behind, loses at Fredericktown

Scott City could not stop Fredericktown running back Ryan Sawyer on Saturday, as the Blackcats running back picked up 150 yards and three touchdowns in a 27-14 home victory.

The game, originally scheduled for Friday, was pushed back to Saturday afternoon following the storms.

The Rams fell to 1-3, and Fredericktown moved to 3-1.

Sawyer scored on runs of 27, 14 and 14 yards.

Fredericktown built a 13-0 lead, including one 92-yard drive. Scott City closed within five points when quarterback Ethan Watkins scored on a 2-yard run and the two-point conversion was successful.

But Fredericktown scored on its next drive, capped by Sawyer's second scoring run in the final 3 minutes of the first half, to take a 21-8 halftime lead.

Scott City opened the second half with a failed onsides kick attempt.

Fredericktown marched in for a score, with Sawyer running 14 yards to paydirt. The kick failed.

Chris Blankenship scored late in the final quarter for Scott City's second score.

Blankenship rushed for 45 yards on 19 carries.

Scott City will host rival Chaffee (2-2) on Friday.

St. Vincent at Maplewood, ppd.

St. Vincent will try to reach .500 at 4 p.m. today with a road game at MAFC Blue Division foe Maplewood.

The game got underway with about 2 minutes of action Friday, which was enough time for both teams to commit turnovers in the rainy conditions.

It was then scheduled to be concluded Saturday but soggy conditions moved the game back another day.

The Indians enter the game 1-2, 1-0 in league play while Maplewood is 2-1, 1-0.
