SCOTT CITY -- Scott City's boys basketball team jumped out to a 22-point lead in the first quarter and went on to pound Oak Ridge 104-40 Tuesday night.

The Rams, who led 66-14 at halftime, improved to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in the Scott-Mississippi Conference.

Luke Sample scored 13 points in the first quarter and finished with a game-high 23 points. Lance Amick finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds, while John Beck scored 18 points. Ryan Weatherspoon netted 12 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and blocked seven shots.

Scott City held a 38-17 rebounding edge for the game.

Kelly 59, Bloomfield 55

BENTON -- Sophomore guard Brett Burger made his first-ever varsity start and led the injury-plagued Hawks with 17 points, including three 3-pointers.

"He was really a big lift," Kelly head coach Kent Mangles said. The Hawks had three starters who didn't even dress due to injury. Junior point guard Jamie Essner also filled in as a starter, scoring eight points. Jason Glastetter scored 16 for Kelly.

Bloomfield, which trailed by as many as nine in the fourth quarter, cut the lead to two, but never came closer.

Kelly made 13-of-14 free throws.

Woodland 68, Bernie 57

MARBLE HILL -- Woodland's undefeated status endured a rigorous test by Bernie, but the Cardinals pulled away late for the win.

Woodland (6-0) led 36-30 at halftime, but saw its lead trimmed to a single point, 49-48, by the start of the fourth quarter. The Cardinals held a 19-9 scoring advantage over the final eight minutes.

"Playing Bernie tonight was a real test for us," said Woodland coach Jennings Wilkinson. "I thought both teams played hard and really well."

Jason Greer netted four of Woodland's eight 3-pointers and finished with 18 points. David Massa netted 14 points and Matt Cutsinger 13.

Jesse Dirks led Bernie with 12 points.

St. Vincent 75, Herculaneum 54

PERRYVILLE -- Ryan Prost led the Indians with 21 points, eight rebounds and six assists to help boost St. Vincent's record to 3-1 in its first Jefferson County Conference game of the season.

Justin Amschler added 18 points for the Indians and was one of 11 players to score for St. Vincent.

The Indians opened the game with a 17-0 run and at one point were up 23-4, but Herculaneum went on a 7-0 run in the second quarter and trailed just 37-29 at the half.

St. Vincent won the junior varsity game 61-46.

Leopold 58, Bell City 50

LEOPOLD -- Sophomore Ashton James scored a game-high 20 points as Leopold improved to 4-2 on the season.

Bell City led 22-14 after the first period and 34-23 at halftime, but the Wildcats outscored the Cubs 13-4 in the third quarter and 20-12 in the fourth.

Jarrod Eftink scored a team-high 19 points for Bell City.

Delta 79, Meadow Heights 48

DELTA -- The Bobcats broke loose for 30 points in the first quarter and coasted to victory over Meadow Heights.

Delta, which evened its record at 3-3, led 30-10 after one quarter and 47-29 at intermission.

Greg Voelker led Delta's charge with 21 points, followed by Ryan Livingston 15, Robby Lemonds 14, and Josh Altenthal 12.

JV Basketball

Central girls split

Sarah Hyslop scored 11 as the Lady Tigers' "A" team (5-7) fell 42-38 to Farmington Tuesday night.

Ashley Taylor scored 10 to lead Farmington.

In the "B" game, Central rolled to a 52-33 win in its first game of the season.

Kim Pancoast scored a game-high 20 points.

Freshman basketball

Central boys sweep

Cape Central's freshman defeated Park Hills in a pair of games. The `A' team won 54-35 behind 19 points by Jordan White. The `B' squad won 34-10 as Shaun Steger tallied 12 points.
