SCOTT CITY, Mo. -- Scott City's Senior Babe Ruth team -- its first team since 1985 -- improved to 2-2 with a doubleheader sweep over the Cape White Sox.
Scott City won the first game 5-3 and the second game 8-5.
In the first game, Jordan Comer threw a three-hitter and struck out six in picking up the win. He walked two.
Bobby Taylor went 2-for-2 with a double and a walk.
In the second game, Steven Posey picked up the win on another three-hitter. Posey fanned 10 and walked four.
Doug Kuenert went 2-for-2 with a triple, a walk and four RBIs.
Cape Jr. Legion sweeps
Tuesday night, Cape swept visiting Dunklin County 9-4 and 5-2 despite having just seven hits in the two games.
Cape received a pair of complete-game pitching performances. In the opener, John Thies allowed six hits, with nine strikeouts and one walk. In the nightcap, Lee Essner allowed three hits, with four strikeouts and four walks.
Aaron Dohogne and Josh Ford accounted for all of Cape's first-game hits with two each while Blake Urhahn had two of Cape's three second-game hits.
Chaffee Legion splits with Sikeston
SIKESTON -- Chaffee's Senior Legion team managed only 10 hits in two games but came away with a sweep Tuesday night.
Chaffee won the opener 8-2 behind a two-hitter thrown by G.P. Glueck. Glueck struck out nine and walked five.
Chaffee (3-1) had just five hits.
Sikeston's Bobby Landers earned the win, striking out 10 and allowing five hits and no walks in seven innings.
Matt Stroup had two hits for Chaffee.
Scott Eftink suffered the loss in four innings. He allowed six runs, all earned, on six hits and five walks. He struck out four.
