Southeast Missouri State University head men's basketball coach Gary Garner isn't in the market for a new assistant coach after all.

That's because Tom Schuberth, Garner's top assistant the past two seasons, is back with the Indians.

Schuberth was introduced last week as the new head coach at Christian Brothers University, a Division II school in Memphis, Tenn. But he reconsidered and has decided to stay at Southeast.

Schuberth notified Christian Brothers officials of his decision Monday and returned to work at Southeast Tuesday.

"I really appreciate the support of coach Garner and (Southeast president) Dr. Ken Dobbins in allowing me to stay at Southeast," said Schuberth. "I really want to stay in Division I basketball and I'm working with a great coach in a program with a very bright future.

"I want to be a part of that future at Southeast. I really love working with coach Garner and the other coaches and players on our basketball team."

Garner said he is pleased with Schuberth's decision.

"Coach Schuberth is a good friend and an outstanding assistant coach who we are happy to have in our program," said Garner. "I consider him to be one of the better recruiters in the country.

"We are currently in a recruiting period and I look forward to getting coach Schuberth back on the road."
