Schilling collects his 19th victory

PHOENIX -- Curt Schilling became the season's first 19-game winner, pitching seven scoreless innings Sunday as the Arizona Diamondbacks completed a three-game sweep of the Florida Marlins with a 9-2 victory.

He allowed five hits, struck out eight, walked none and threw just 89 pitches, 61 for strikes.

Schilling (19-4) was the fastest to reach 18 victories since Randy Jones of San Diego in 1976, but had failed to get No. 19 despite two strong outings.

DENVER -- Sammy Sosa resumed his weekend home run surge with a grand slam, and Corey Patterson hit two homers as Chicago beat Colorado.

The Cubs, who had six homers Saturday, added five more Sunday.

HOUSTON -- Chipper Jones had a career-high five hits and scored three runs, and Kevin Millwood won for the ninth time in 10 decisions as Atlanta routed Houston.

Atlanta had a season-high 20 hits in winning for the 10th time in 12 games.

SAN FRANCISCO -- Pinch-hitter Ramon Martinez singled home the winning run in the 11th inning to give San Francisco a victory over Pittsburgh.

Jeff Kent homered and drove in two runs for the Giants, who won for the sixth time in eight games even though closer Robb Nen blew a 4-3 lead in the ninth.

CINCINNATI -- Aaron Boone hit a two-run homer in the 12th inning as Cincinnati blew a late five-run lead, then rallied for a victory and series sweep of San Diego.

Boone hit three homers in the series opener Friday night, then completed the three-game sweep by connecting off Brandon Villafuerte (1-1) with one out in the 12th.

MILWAUKEE -- Ben Sheets scattered five hits over eight innings, and Matt Stairs and Richie Sexson homered as Milwaukee beat Montreal.

BOSTON -- Tim Wakefield pitched eight sharp innings for his 100th career win as Boston beat Minnesota.

Wakefield (6-4) allowed four hits and matched his season high with seven strikeouts for the Red Sox, who took two of three from the AL Central-leading Twins.

TORONTO -- Jarrod Washburn won for the 15th time in 16 decisions, limiting Toronto to three hits over eight innings as Anaheim beat Roy Halladay and Toronto.

Washburn (15-3) retired 17 straight at one point, struck out five and walked none.

White Sox 6, Mariners 5

CHICAGO -- Jeff Liefer hit a three-run homer, and Joe Crede and Jose Valentin added solo shots to help Chicago beat Seattle.

Crede's home run was his first in the majors. The White Sox have won five of seven.

CLEVELAND -- Alex Rodriguez hit his AL-leading 38th homer, and rookie Travis Hafner nearly hit for the cycle to lead Texas over Cleveland.

Hafner, who made his major league debut Tuesday night, went 4-for-5 with three RBIs as the Rangers rouged up Charles Nagy (1-3).
