Southeast Missouri State senior quarterback Matt Scheible has earned national recognition for Saturday's big performance.
Scheible was named national performer of the week and national quarterback of the week by the College Football Performance Awards organization Monday.
Scheible accounted for 291 yards of total offense and all five of Southeast's touchdowns during the Redhawks' first win of the season, 37-30 over visiting Eastern Illinois.
Scheible rushed for a career-high 161 yards, the most by an Ohio Valley Conference player this season, on 19 carries. He scored two touchdowns, including a career-long 71-yard run in the third quarter to put the Redhawks up for good.
Scheible also completed 14 of 18 passes for 130 yards and three touchdowns.
Scheible, who has started every game since the beginning of his sophomore season, has 5,875 yards of total offense for his career. He ranks second all-time at Southeast and needs only 61 yards to break the record.
Scheible ranks seventh on Southeast's career rushing list with 1,983 yards and eighth in career passing with 3,892 yards.
