Caitlin Scheeter has known Kaitlyn Scheeter nearly all her life.
"Our moms taught together in Chaffee public schools," Caitlin Scheeter said.
So, she knew long before stepping foot in the same school with Kaitlyn Scheeter at Notre Dame Regional High School that there was another person by nearly the same name.
And the two Scheeters say it doesn't lead to many incidents.
"When they call our names for the office, they have to say whether it's Kaitlyn with a 'C' or a 'K,'" Caitlin said.
"There's not too much confusion because we're in different classes," Kaitlyn said.
They also play different sports.
In fact, the Southeast Missourian learned of the existence of two Caitlin/Kaitlyn Scheeters by publishing the wrong name in a Notre Dame softball story earlier this fall.
Caitlin Scheeter, a junior from Chaffee, is a reserve outfielder with the Bulldogs softball team that won a district championship last weekend and carries a 26-2 record into today's Class 3 sectional game against Fredericktown at Park Hills.
Kaitlyn Scheeter, a senior from Cape Girardeau, is a captain of the Bulldogs volleyball team and a member of the girls soccer team. The Notre Dame volleyball team improve to 10-8-3 with Tuesday's win at Central and heads to the Festus Invitational this weekend.
"We've had things like medicine, eye stuff, mixed up," Caitlin said. "I was given the wrong contacts prescription."
The Scheeters say the confusion was probably more difficult for their older sisters --Caitlin's sister Chelsey and Kaitlyn's sister Kelsey. They were both in Notre Dame's class of 2005 and had their schoolwork mixed up occasionally.
"They would call one to the office and the other one would show up, too," said Kaitlyn.
The Scheeters, both honor roll students, insist any calls to the office wouldn't reflect poorly on Caitlin Scheeter or the other Kaitlyn Scheeter.
"We're good kids," Caitlin said.
