Scott City graduate Matt Schaefer and Chaffee graduate Gabe Walter will participate in the 29th annual Missouri Lions All-Star Football Game on Saturday at Walton Stadium on the campus of Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Mo.

A banquet for the athletes will take place on Friday with former Green Bay Packers tight end Paul Coffman serving as the keynote speaker. Saturday's game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.

Other SEMO Conference schools represented in the game include East Prairie, Charleston, Caruthersville, Poplar Bluff, Kennett, Hayti and Dexter.

Harris signs

Central graduate Eli Harris recently signed with William Baptist College in Walnut Ridge, Ark., on a basketball scholarship.

Despite suffering through several injuries over his final two seasons, Harris managed to lead the 12-15 Tigers in scoring last season at 17 points per game. He also averaged eight rebounds per game. The 6-foot guard played both guard positions for the Tigers.

"He did a good job playing two roles for us at the point and shooting guard, and he was our main scorer," Central coach Derek McCord said.

William Baptist is an NAIA school which competes in the American Midwest Conference.

Hartmann honored already

Jackson graduate Molly Hartmann, a three-time all-state soccer player, was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie team as a member of the St. Louis University women's soccer team.

Hartmann recently ended her high school career after scoring more than 100 goals and leading the Indians to four straight district titles.

Perryville commitments

Perryville all-state football player Matt Unterreiner, who excelled at running back and kick returner for the district champion Pirates, will play college football beginning this fall at Culver-Stockton, an NAIA school located in Canton, Mo.

Unterreiner finished with 1,494 yards rushing on 244 carries last year. He scored 17 touchdowns in 11 games.

Culver-Stockton, which finished 4-6 last year, opens the season Sept. 4 against William Jewell.

A member of the William Jewell football team will be Kirk Luckey, another Perryville grad who made his commitment earlier this year, according to Perryville coach Rick Chastain. As a receiver, Luckey caught 28 passes for 402 yards last season.

St. Cin to Maryville

Oran graduate Tori St. Cin signed a letter of intent to play softball at Maryville University in St. Louis. St. Cin played primarily third base or catcher as a senior and earned all-conference honors.

St. Cin also was a four-year letter winner in volleyball and basketball.

Hansbrough commits

Ben Hansbrough, who will be a senior at Poplar Bluff High School, recently verbally committed to play basketball at Mississippi State. The 6-foot-4 guard will join a Southeastern Conference program that has been a regular NCAA playoff participant in recent years.

Hansbrough's older brother, 6-9 high school All-American Tyler, will soon begin his college career at North Carolina.
