BENTON, Mo. — It was all Scott County Central in a 76-13 win over East Prairie in the consolation bracket of the 2024 Scott-Mississippi Conference Tournament at Kelly High School on Wednesday, Jan. 23.

Depth proved the ultimate weapon for the sixth-seeded Bravettes (7-8) as freshman Laney Glueck ignited the offense with a career-high 17 points, post player Nikki Adams dominated the paint with 16 points, and Ellie Britt capped off the scoring barrage with a personal best of 11 points.

“I'm pleased with our execution tonight,” said SCC Andrew Pullen. “Our rebounding was excellent, leading to several transition opportunities and open shots. We also maintained disciplined pressure on defense, forcing them into turnovers and violations. Seeing multiple players reach double digits is always encouraging, and hopefully, we can build on this momentum for the next game."

The Bravettes established their authority early, building a commanding 27-2 lead after the first quarter and steadily extending it throughout the game.

Battling uphill against a formidable opponent, the seventh-seeded Lady Eagles (3-11) may have fallen short tonight, but they can find solace in a season that hints at future success. Just hours before, their junior varsity squad won a conference championship banner, while their seventh-grade team accomplished the same feat earlier this season.

“We hope that this can help start changing the culture of the program,” said East Prairie coach Scot Davis. “We kept most of our freshmen and sophomores on junior varsity for the tournament and it paid off. We’re just trying to get any kind of momentum, but all our players showed their commitment and dedication to this program tonight.”

Scott County Central will face fifth-seed Oak Ridge (10-9) in the consolation championship on Thursday, Jan. 25 at 5 p.m.

The Bluejays defeated eight-seeded Charleston (1-11) in the other semifinal matchup.

“It was such an exciting win for the girls,” said Oak Ridge coach Julie Ward. “They worked hard tonight and to be able to tie the most wins in program history, which is something pretty special. We still have plans to hopefully win a few more games this season and continue with our team goals of getting more than 10 wins and also having a winning record for the season. I am very proud of this team and everything they have accomplished these past two years.”
