Saxony's Younghouse will swim at Stephens College

Saxony Lutheran senior Emily Younghouse, the only swimmer on the Crusaders' first-year team last season, has decided to continue her academic and athletic career at Stephens College.

Stephens is an NAIA school in Columbia, Mo. The swimming team is coached by Laura Wacker, who previously coached with Cape Girardeau's Gators Swim Team.

"I really liked her a lot," said Younghouse, who said Stephens was first and foremost on her mind throughout the process. "I liked the atmosphere, and everyone was so nice. It's a pretty small campus, and academically they have what I'm interested in."

Younghouse, who wants to major in fashion marketing and management, also is a former Gator who now swims with the Southeast Aquatic League.

She hasn't completed her collegiate paperwork yet, but expects to formalize that in a visit to the campus in March.

Younghouse is preparing for her second season with the Saxony Lutheran swimming team. This year, she said, she may have a teammate and a situation that may allow her to swim in the state meet.

She qualified in the 500-yard freestyle but did not swim at state last year.

"I'd love to swim at the state meet," she said.

Jackson's Warmack signs

Jackson senior Nathan Warkmack signed on Feb. 1 to play football at Southwest Minnesota State.

Warmack finished with 53 tackles, seven tackles for loss and three sacks during his senior campaign for the Indians. The 6-foot-3, 270 pound Warmack earned first-team all-SEMO North Conference on the defensive line this past season.

Southwest Minnesota State is an NCAA Division II school which plays in the Northern Sun Conference. The Mustangs finished 4-7 last season.

"Nathan was a good player for us," Gross said. "He had a good year."
