The only thing that stood between Nicole McLard and perfection was a hit batter.
McLard struck out 16 and didn't allow a hit to lead the Saxony Lutheran softball team to a 1-0 victory over Leopold on Wednesday.
The Crusaders scored the game-winning run in the top of the seventh. Angel Stone came in to score on a sacrifice bunt by Kara Versemann.
Whitney Vandeven was the tough-luck loser. She struck out nine and allowed two hits.
The Crusaders improved to 7-2, while the Wildcats fell to 13-2.

Garrett Stevens went 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs to lead the Tigers (10-13) to a road win.
Zach Wilson earned the win for Central. Blake Smith and Ryan Grigaitis each added two hits for the winners.

The Rams scored 10 runs in the first, then added a six pack in the second and another four in the third.
Adam Williams took the loss for the Panthers.
