~ The senior will play women's basketball at Vanderbilt.
Saxony Lutheran senior Lauren Lueders will officially sign her letter of intent to play basketball at Vanderbilt University at 3:30 p.m. today in the school library.
Lueders made an oral commitment to Vanderbilt over the summer. During the Crusaders' two years as a varsity boys basketball program, Lueders has averaged about 10 points a game.
She has been listed twice as a preseason high school All-America honorable mention by Street & Smith's College Basketball.
Vanderbilt is ranked in the top 20 in both major preseason top 25 polls. Last season Vanderbilt lost to Michigan State in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
Lueders and the Saxony Lutheran boys basketball team will be in the second annual Bank of Missouri Heartland Hoopfest on Dec. 10 at the Perry Park Center in Perryville.
Saxony will play at 3:50 p.m. against Festus, Mo., St. Pius in a rematch of game St. Pius won 62-60 during the inaugural Heartland Hoopfest last year.
The day's slate also includes: Perryville against Ste. Genevieve at 9:30 a.m.; St. Vincent against Oak Ridge at 11:05 a.m.; Bell City facing St. Louis Vianney at 12:40 p.m.; Charleston against Red Bud, Ill., at 2:15 p.m.; Notre Dame against DuQuoin, Ill., at 5:25 p.m.; Jackson vs. Wildwood Lafayette, 7 p.m.; St. Louis Vashon against Indianapolis Arlington at 8:35 p.m.
The Jackson football program had three perfect seasons to complement the varsity team's 6-4 campaign this fall.
The junior varsity team was 8-0 for coaches Bob Sink, Brandon Norman and Jerry Golden; the eighth-grade team was 6-0 for coaches Eric Venable, Mike Gross and Reagan McDowell; and the ninth-grade team was 6-0 for coaches Sam Sides and Nathan Norman.
The junior high teams were perfect for their second straight seasons while the JV has lost just one game in the last two years.
Jackson had three players earn all-district honors from the Class 4 District 1 tournament hosted by Hillsboro.
Jodie Gipson, Amanda Peiffer and Natalie Koeper all made first-team.
Shay Priester, of Jackson, and Karissa Wheeler of Central made the second team.
Ashley Nenninger of Notre Dame and Jocelyn Moll of Perryville each earned first-team all-district honors from the Class 3 District 1 tournament hosted by Dexter.
Kaitlyn Scheeter and Merideth Medlin of Notre Dame each made the second team, as did Perryville's Lindsey Lappe.
