Saxony Lutheran launched its baseball program Saturday, splitting a doubleheader with Christ Our Savior of Illinois in Perryville.
The Crusaders won the opener 4-3 and lost the second game 11-0.
Saxony fell behind Christ Our Savior 3-0 in the opener, but the Crusaders scored two runs in the sixth inning and won the game with two runs in the seventh. Kory Mueller, who was 2-for-4, had a double to drive in the winning run.
In the nightcap, Christ Our Savior scored seven runs in the third inning en route to an 11-0 win.

Jackson won a pair of games at the Festus Tournament to improve to 5-0.
Tyler Beussink threw a complete-game shutout in the opener, a 4-0 win over Herculaneum. Beussink allowed five hits, struck out five and walked two.
The Indians got all four runs in the first inning. Trey Busch and Luke Crader had two hits apiece. Beussink added two RBIs.
In the second game, Jackson defeated Kirksville 12-2 in five innings. Brandon Gendron pitched all five for the win and added two hits. Chad Minson, Jason Meystedt, Busch and Cameron Heath had two hits apiece. Minson had three RBIs, while Meystedt and Rex Meyr each had two RBIs.
Notre Dame won at the Festus Tournament, defeating the host team 6-2 to even its record at 1-1 in the tourney. Aaron Jenkins, Lucas Dirnberger and Blake Essner had two hits apiece. Jeremy Brinkmeyer pitched around eight hits and five walks for the complete game victory.

Central scored nine runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and went on to beat Parkway North at home.
The Tigers (3-6) had 17 hits and forcing Parkway North to pitch out of its bullpen early in its second game of the day in Cape Girardeau.
Ty Craft, Matt Hester, Brandon Cooper, Brad LaBruyere and Zach Hudson all hit doubles in the game. Hester had two.
Justin Myers earned his first win in relief, while LaBruyere notched a save.

Anthony Wulfers pitched 6 1/3 innings but took the loss in a pitchers duel.
Wulfers struck out six, walked one and allowed four hits. Notre Dame was limited to three hits and struck out 16 times.

GIRLS SWIMMING
City of Roses Invitational
Thirteen teams and 235 athletes participated Saturday in the City of Roses Invitational at Central Municipal Pool.
"The nice thing was that the community, the sponsors and the parents really got behind us on this," Powell said. "Everything went really smooth, and I think people really enjoyed coming to Cape."
Notre Dame finished eighth and Central was ninth in the meet, which was won by Columbia Hickman. Springfield Glendale was second.
Central's Hannah Kinder won two events, the 50-meter freestyle and the 100 freestyle. She shared the athlete of the meet honors.
"Overall we had a really good meet," Powell said. "We had some really good swims; Kinder really stands out."
Saxony Lutheran's Emily Younghouse, the only swimmer on the team, had a pair of top-five finishes -- fifth in the 200 freestyle and third in the 500 freestyle.
Ashley Nenninger was third for Notre Dame in the 100 breaststroke, and teammate Jordan Seabaugh was fifth in the 100 butterfly.

Central's girls finished first at the Murphysboro Invitational behind two first-place finishes by sprinter Nicole Jackson, who won the 100- and 200-meter runs.
Central finished with a team score of 164, ahead of Cahokia (Ill.) with 126. Jackson was third with 74.5 points.
Distance runners Jen Pancoast (1,600 meters) and Linnea Woldvedt (3,200) added first-place finishes for Central, which also won the 3,200 relay with the team of Pancoast, Holly Shaffer, LindseyPingel and Renne Moreland. Central's Dani Gross was first in the triple jump and second in the long jump.
