Saxony Lutheran puts away Indians

The Saxony Lutheran boys basketball team said enough is enough in the third period.

After the Crusaders entered halftime clinging to a one-point lead, they came alive in the third period to pull away in the third quarter and post the 47-35 victory Friday in the first day of the Saxony Lutheran tournament.

Saxony Lutheran outscored the Indians 23-8 in the third.

Bret Steffens led the way with 14 points, while Bryant Steffens added 12 in the win.

Justin L'Hote and Kyle Rollet paced St. Vincent (2-2) with nine points apiece.

In other opening-day action, Valle Catholic downed Eagle Ridge 67-47.

Josh Carbaugh and Jonathan Rockhill both scored 14 points for the Eagles.

Meadow Heights opened a 46-19 lead on Saxony Lutheran at the intermission and never looked back.

Hattie Cook and Whitney Welker both scored 15 points, while Jillian Mills added 10 in the win.

Brooke Valleroy paced the Crusaders with 11 points. Brianna Lueders added 10.
