Andrew Etzold scored in double overtime Thursday to give the Saxony Lutheran boys soccer team a 1-0 victory against Central at the Notre Dame Soccerfest.

Bryant Steffens recorded the shutout for the Crusaders (2-0), who will play Carbondale at 6 p.m. today.

Central fell to 0-1.

In other first-round action, tournament-host Notre Dame pounded Poplar Bluff 8-0.

Brock Dirnberger led the way wth three goals and an assist. Nick Wren and John Unterreiner each chipped in with a goal and an assist.

Ryan Bass had three saves in goal for the Bulldogs (2-0).

Volleyball Woodland Tournament

Leopold and Woodland reached the championship match with straight-game victories.

Leopold defeated Advance 25-20, 25-10, while Woodland squeaked past Zalma 25-21, 28-26.

Leopold will play Woodland at 7:45 p.m. today in the finals.

In other matches, Saxony Lutheran defeated Greenville 25-15, 25-17, and Meadow Heights stopped Oak Ridge 27-25, 25-9.

Jackson 23 25 19 Dexter 25 22 25

Jackson took Dexter the distance, but fell at home.

Jill Rushin had seven blocks and slammed eight kills in the loss for the Indians (1-1).

Farmington 25 25 Notre Dame 19 22

The Bulldogs played a close match against visiting Farmington, but fell in straight sets.

Kelsey Bradshaw had 19 digs, Alyssa Roupe had nine aces and Megan Dohogne had 10 kills in the season-opening loss.
