The sixth-seeded Saxony Lutheran boys basketball team outscored 11th-seeded Puxico in each quarter and held on for a 58-36 victory in the first round of the Bloomfield Christmas Tournament on Saturday in Bloomfield, Missouri.
Corie Williams knocked down three 3-pointers and finished with a team-high 17 points for Saxony (7-0). William Rogers added 16 points for the Crusaders, who led 27-16 at halftime. Saxony's unbeaten record will be put to the test against another unbeaten team in No. 3 South Pemiscot. The Crusaders and Bulldogs will meet in a quarterfinal at 8:30 p.m. Monday.
Levi Woods scored a game-high 21 points to lead Puxico. The Indians will face 14th-seeded Van Buren in a consolation semifinal.
