The Saxony Lutheran boys basketball team could not defend its Chester (Ill.) Invitational Tournament title, falling to Marissa (Ill.) late Saturday 61-47 at Chester, Ill.

Alex Jauch led the Crusaders (12-2) with 13 points, Bret Steffens had 12 and Ben Courtois added 11. Only five Saxony players scored.

Jauch and Clay Obergoenner made the all-tournament team.

Perryville won the third-place game 60-53 over host Chester. Rick Dunn made the all-tournament team for the Pirates.

Girls basketball

Jackson's game today against Oakville in the Martin Luther King Classic at Maryville University has been postponed due to icy conditions in the St. Louis area. The game has been rescheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.

  • St. Vincent DePaul won the Notre Dame Junior High boys basketball tournament on Sunday, defeating St. Mary 49-34 in the championship game.

Jake Tolbert led St. Vincent with 18 points, while Eric Hayes added 14.
