Different atmosphere, same results for the Saxony Lutheran boys cross country team.
One day after the Advance Invitational was rained out, race favorite Saxony Lutheran came out on top of a five-team field in a makeup cross country meet that was run around the track at Chaffee.
The Crusaders, Class 1 state champions the last two years, scored 36 points to beat Woodland's 68 and Kelly's 79.
The Dexter girls scored 25 points to top first-year program Woodland and Meadow Heights in their race.
"It's just a different concept running a cross country meet on the track," Saxony Lutheran coach Larry Cleair said. "For our kids, it was a good workout."
Saxony senior Brandon Etzold finished first in 16 minutes, 59 seconds. Saxony's Max Weiser was fifth.
Kelly's Cody Kern was third in 18:14, and Terry hafner of Meadow Heights was fourth in 18:20.
In the girls race, Kelly's Tara Johnson finished second to Dexter's Jill Temples. Johnson's time of 21:36 was four seconds off the winning pace. Woodland's Nichole Balzer was third in 21:54.
