PETERMAN AMONG WINNERS IN CAPE CHIP-A-WAYS EVENT

Deanna Peterman finished first in the A-flight during the Cape Chip-a-Ways event this week. Bev Wink won the B-flight. The play of the day winner was Lillian Angle; Carol Brown won the low puts competition.

Two Chip-a-Ways members -- Caryn Michel and Mari Davis -- were on the team that won the four-person scramble recently at Fredericktown (Mo.) Country Club.

COLLEGES

Prosecutors filed felony charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor against four University of Colorado football players. Allen Mackey, Marques Harris, Ron Monteilh and Corey Alexander are accused of giving alcohol to minors. Monteilh was also charged with distributing marijuana, said his attorney, Stephan Wall. The players' attorneys have said the men deny wrongdoing. The charges stem from an party for high school football recruits on Dec. 7.

Golf

South Korea's K.J. Choi shot a 7-under-par 65 on to take a one-stroke lead over Dan Forsman after the second round of the Compaq Classic.

Choi had an 11-under 133 total on the English Turn course at New Orleans, La.

Forsman, the first-round leader, shot a 69. Tim Clark (67) was third at 9 under, and former Georgia Tech star Bryce Molder (67) and Billy Andrade (66) followed at 8 under.

Kelly Robbins shot an 8-under 64 in the opening round of the Chick-fil-A Charity Championship before rain halted play with many of the top players still on the course at Stockbridge, Ga. Juli Inkster and Laura Diaz opened with 66s, while defending champion Annika Sorenstam, Karrie Webb and Se Ri Pak were among those unable to finish because of drenching rain and howling wind.

Larry Nelson and Dana Quigley shared the first-round lead in the Bruno's Memorial Classic when play was suspended for the day because of thunderstorms at Hoover, Ala. The leaders were at 7-under, with Nelson completing 14 holes and Quigley playing 13. Quigley made his 178th consecutive start, breaking the tour record he shared with Mike McCullough.

South Africa's Trevor Immelman shot an 8-under 64 to take a four-stroke lead in the French Open at Versailles, France. The 22-year-old Immelman had a 12-under 132 total on Le Golf National's Albatross Course. Defending champion Jose Maria Olazabal of Spain shot a 67 to join Argentina's Eduardo Romero (65) and France's Jean-Francois Remesy (69) at 8-under 136.

Motorsports

Jason Keller passed Bobby Hamilton Jr. with 12 laps to go and won the Hardee's 250, an event that tied the Richmond International Raceway record for Busch series cautions. Eleven yellow flags flew, most coming in the first half of the race as a new sealer on the track made the turns treacherous. The pace was slowed for 85 of the 250 laps, and 19 cars were finished before the end came.

News that autopsy photographs of Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes have appeared on the Internet has prompted Dale Earnhardt Inc. to plan a tribute to the singer during tonight's NASCAR race. Lopes, 30, a member of the Grammy-winning R&B trio TLC, was killed in a traffic accident in Honduras on April 25. During the Pontiac 400 at Richmond International Raceway, the race cars of Dale Earnhardt Jr., Steve Park and Michael Waltrip will each have a black stripe under the left headlight. Lopes often performed with a similar stripe under her left eye.
