Sanctioned Bears maul MU 90-64

~ Baylor grabbed a 22-point lead by halftime and handed Missouri its sixth straight loss.

WACO, Texas -- Curtis Jerrells took advantage of his opportunities. And that led to another Baylor victory.

The freshman guard scored a career-high 28 points, hitting five-of-six 3-pointers, to lead Baylor to a 90-64 win over Missouri on Tuesday.

"When you knock down a few of them, you get confident," said Jerrells, who went 11-of-14 from the field. "Once you see another opportunity, you just take it."

Kevin Rogers added 13 points for the Bears, while Tommy Swanson scored 10 to give Baylor (2-7, 2-7 Big 12) its second straight home win.

The back-to-back Big 12 home victories were the first for the Bears since 2002 when they defeated Texas A&M 97-45 on Feb. 3 and Missouri 81-80 on Feb. 9. Baylor, which is only allowed to play conference opponents this year due to NCAA sanctions, opened its season on Jan. 11 and promptly lost its first six games.

"We have some explosive players on the offensive end," Baylor coach Scott Drew said. "It was just a matter of time for Curtis Jerrells to have a breakout game. You could see it snowball once it got going."

Thomas Gardner led Missouri (10-11, 3-7) with 25 points while Jimmy McKinney contributed 13 as the Tigers suffered their sixth straight loss.

"With a game like today, you feel that life has just ended," Missouri coach Quin Snyder said. "But there's more games left to play. I've got to figure out how to make my kids get better."

Baylor took command with four minutes left in the first half, closing out with a 17-4 run to go in front 43-21. Five 3-pointers fueled the run. Jerrells, who scored 11 first-half points, and Aaron Bruce each had a pair.

Baylor continued to dominate in the second half and led the Tigers by as much as 32 points at 82-50 on Mamadou Diene's putback with just over five minutes left.

Thomas Gardner led Missouri with 25 points, while Jimmy McKinney contributed 13.

The Bears shot 68 percent in the second half, going 19-of-28 from field, and held the Tigers to 7-of-17 performance for 41 percent.
