The Cape Girardeau Riverdogs completed play in a baseball tournament in Evansville, Ind., on Friday with an 0-3 record.
The Riverdogs needed wins in two of their three pool play games to advance to weekend action in the 11-team event.
In their second game of the day, the Riverdogs took a 3-0 lead into the fifth, only to lose 5-3 to Aurora, Ill. Tyler Nelson took the loss after allowing four runs in 5 2/3 innings. Adam Friga led the eight-hit attack with a 3-for-3 performance.
The loss dropped the Riverdogs to 7-12, with their next game in the National Baseball Congress Mid-South Regional hosted by the Plaza Tire Capahas starting Friday.
The Riverdogs had lost a 3-1 decision early Friday against Austin, Minn. Tim Davis was the losing pitcher despite allowing just five hits in six innings. He had four strikeouts but walked three and hit one.
The Riverdogs had seven hits in the game but scored only on a home run by Friga.
A two-out double in the third inning propelled Austin into the lead for good.
The previous night, the Riverdogs fell 13-3 to the Evansville Outlaws. David Mathis was the losing pitcher in the four-inning game.
Cape Legion washed outFord & Sons Cape Girardeau American Legion team had its tournament opener at the Anheuser-Busch Tournament in St. Louis rained out on Friday.
The contest, against Bowling Green, Ky., was rescheduled for 9 a.m. today.
Firecracker ClassicThe three-time defending Firecracker Tournament champion Cape Titans won their opener in the Senior Babe Ruth tournament.
The Titans defeated Charleston 13-0 in five innings. Josh Mayberry was the winning pitcher. In other action Mineral Area beat Oran 4-1 and Charleston beat the Cape Yankees 15-9.
